We had an opportunity to interview her, here she told us about her work and carrier prospects.

when did you discover that you wanted a career in the beauty industry?
This wasn't something that I discovered on my own! At the age of 18, my mom told me that in order to stay on her insurance i had to be in school. At that time i had no intentions of going to school because getting out of high school was hard enough, so in my mind i was done with learning. One day i was talking to one of my aunties and i told her the situation, she suggested since I already experiment with doing different crazy things with my hair that I should just go to school for it. In school I didn't pay attention nor did i have any intentions of doing any work! It wasn't until I actually started working in a salon that I found my passion. And the more i learned, the most fascinated i became!

Do i think this is a skill people are born w/or can it be cultivated?
I think it can be both! I originally had a passion for braiding, not doing hair! My passion for braiding came in the 5th grade , when I would see other young girls french braiding each other's hair. I remember i asked them if they could show me how to do it! As they replied "no" i began to watch them from a distance in secret to see if I could recreate what they were doing. That day I went home and asked my mom if she could teach me to braid, she agreed, but as a single mother she worked all the time and never got the chance. I was young and eager to learn, so I practiced what I thought I saw until it was perfect. As i got older i was often intrigued by the hair styles i seen on the disney channel. I would often try to recreate that. But I still within myself never said" i want to be a hairstylist when I grow up". I wanted to be a teacher, a model or an actress! NEVER A HAIRSTYLIST!!! But as God took me through life I began to notice that hair rose to the top of my list. This gift is something that was cultivated and not given, i had to work hard for everything I did. I constantly studied different hairstyles to see if i could break them down and do them myself. Countless videos on styling, weaving, coloring and cutting!! Even now, I will sit for hours watching hair videos because I'm that eager to learn more!

Is there any one you would like to work with that you haven't yet?
Kim Kimble has always been on my list of people to work with. She has achieved so much and i wouldn't mind shadowing someone with that much success.

What qualities should they possess?
I believe if you want a career in the beauty industry, you have to have drive, ambition, people skills, a mind for business, an unbothered mindset, a goal, a plan, an education (at least high school and some college), a little bit of money, some sort of honesty, discipline, some type of motivation and a whole lot of patience!

Hair trends for brides?
Right now, I'm seeing a lot of high solid buns with soft make up. Some even go as far as a soft water fall braid with curls. The basic half up and half down with no distinct part, low side bun or pin-up, soft flowing wave curls hanging down and the basic slick back bun since it will all be under a vail anyway.

Creating a look?
With creating any look you first have to look at the face structure of the client! Then consider their every day wear. Among other things their personality and or the color of their eyes, and because I'm not one to go with the seasons i say do whatever color makes you happy! My motto always is" do what makes you have even if it don't make sense" i always like the more edgier side of things, like how can i tip the scale with out it completely tipping it over. And last but not least, make sure that whatever look you go for will be the one that starts many trends, because it only takes one!

Where do you see your business in 5 yrs?
I actually see me having only 2 other businesses in 5 yrs. I do see me in 5 yrs traveling the world styling celebrities for their music videos, red carpet, award ceremonies, photo shoots, television shows, bill boards and every i can get my hands on. I see my businesses making a positive impact on the entertainment industry one day, and everything i ever dreamed of coming true! THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
